Interesting and disturbing how some continue to beat the dead horse that ’science’ and ethics/religion are entirely separate issues, when they never have been nor will be. Sure, there is cold information in and of itself but that is always being confused with ‘approach’ and theory and worldview.
If, in fact, we are to believe that the theory of evolution is only describing natural changes and selections in traits, then it isn’t too far a leap to realize that the cognitive brain resulting from these selections is completely inclusive in that process. And that if the brains in one group of humans determines that they are stronger and better than another characteristically different group, then how can that be separated from the ‘natural processes’ unless they are willing to concede the existence of souls…? except in the case of the unborn and conservatives I guess they would say.
If I may suggest though, I believe the reason they can’t harmonize human dynamics is because of statements like he used: “Darwin created an image that could all too easily be exploited by those who wanted the human race to conform to their own pre-existing ideals.” In other words, a terrorist is a man-caused disaster. Or however they worded that rubbish. There is still a refusal to acknowledge sin and evil, which they can’t acknowledge without admitting there to be a ‘design’ in the first place. So it then becomes selfishly safe for anyone to believe/do whatever they want “as long as I don’t get hurt” in the process.
And to sum up, I do agree that there are many and varied causes for any particular situation in life. Indeed, chemical imbalance in the brain, et al are certainly factors, yet the liberal approach is to only explain everything and worship “explanation”, which is also confused as ’science’, when I rather think “explanation” is a factor in sentencing and NOT judgement, to borrow a judicial analogy. Right and Wrong exist in a system, explanation only determines how long you need to stand in the corner if you mess up.
