Polydactylism in the Ancient World

Cam across an interesting article today on this subject. The article in PDF is here. The article points out that polydactylism (having more than the normal number of fingers or toes) is associated with giants in the Bible. Actually, this is only said of Goliath’s family (one of the sons of Rapha); it is not said of other giant clans, so there is no necessary association.

Mike, I know you are an “X-Files” fan, so I suspect you have already seen it, but if not, the episode “All Souls” deals with this subject. In fact, every time I happen upon that episode in reruns, I think about you when I see the scene where the Scully’s priest pulls out some dusty old book and explains that what she saw was the Nephilim. Heh.
