The Inscription on the “Antikythera Wreck”

This “machine” from an ancient Greek wreck has gotten a lot of attention on the web. Here’s a recent blog entry about the inscription on it.

I’m simply fascinated by the beauty of its design. Was it a one-off custom piece? The amount of time and effort to produce it must have been, pun fully intended, “astronomical”.
