Theology EXPOSED

Biblical theology did not begin with Augustine. It didn't end with the Westminster Confession. It isn't about your denomination's preferences. It's about grasping what the biblical text gives you and letting it speak for itself, no matter what. Doing biblical theology requires being honest about the presuppositions you bring to the text, discerning the interpretive options the text can sustain, weighing the alternatives for coherence, and having a low view of your own omniscience.

About Search Terms and Software Used

From time to time I’ll be showing screenshots of computer searches or creating videos of those searches to illustrate some point from the biblical text. In the course of doing this, I may use some unfamiliar terms. I will be using interlinears for these purposes (a Bible that has English along with the original language displayed).

For the sake of clarity in posts, a “lemma” is the “dictionary entry” of a Hebrew or Greek word in a Hebrew or Greek dictionary.  To illustrate, if I didn’t know what the English word “running” meant, I would not find “running” as an entry in an English dictionary. Rather, I would find “run”–and so “run” is the lemma, the dictionary entry word.  The “text form” or a word is the form of a Hebrew or Greek word exactly as it appears in the biblical text, with any grammatical prefixes or suffixes attached to its beginning or end.  In English, for example, “running” would be the “text form” of a word, having the suffix -ing added to the lemma form.

The software I use is Libronix, or Logos Bible Software, the premier electronic tool for work in the original languages of the Bible and reference material related to the Bible. I should know–I work for Logos. I’ve tried the others, and there’s nothing on the planet like it. By the way, I do not work in sales and get no money (as in zero, nada) for promoting the software. For that reason I can say “you should have it, too” with a clear conscience.
