Saying Goodbye to this Blog out of Necessity

Just wanted everyone to know that I’ll be discontuing the Two Powers in Heaven blog. I know I haven’t written much on it anyway.

I’ve gotten a number of requests about when my “Myth” book will be done (it’s been languishing for a year), so I’m trying to get rid of whatever I can with respect to freeing up more time. It’s also something I need to do to free up some family time.  Just FYI.  My goal for the completion of the full draft of the Myth that is True is now the end of this September.  Very do-able, and it has a much higher priority.

A Year of Blogging (Almost)

I realized last night that I’ve been blogging for a year.  This blog is neglected too often, and was shut down for a while–and I still got almost 26,000 visits!  I need to do more here, and so …

April DeConcik has been posting away over on her Forbidden Gospels blog about how Jesus was invented (or something like that). I’ve decided I need to read through all her posts (she’s up to about 14 now, and some are pretty lengthy) to catch what she’s saying about the NT’s incarnate deity teaching. I’ll naturally be interested to see if April is aware of the two powers in heaven theology. I’m expecting she is. I’ll also be looking to see if she’s given any thought to its presence in the OLD Testament. I’m expecting she hasn’t, and that will be a real problem for what I’m guessing is her thesis (that the binitarian idea in Jewish monotheism was a late invention, as in, it’s a 2nd temple phenomenon that got applied to Jesus well after the first century). Anyway, that’s a guess. I only skimmed the first couple posts, so it’s time to get into them!

Another New Book Of Two Powers Interest

Here’s the title:

Angelomorphic Christology and the Exegesis of Psalm 8:5 in Tertullian’s Adversus Praxean: An Examination of Tertullian’s Reluctance to Attribute Angelic Properties to the Son of God

The abstract reads:

Angelomorphic Christology and the Exegesis of Psalm 8:5 in Tertullian’s Adversus Praxean explores the reluctance of Tertullian of Carthage (160-220 A.D.) to predicate angelic properties of the Lord Jesus Christ. This fresh and insightful work suggests that one reason for this aversion to angelic or angelomorphic Christology was his hermeneutical approach to Psalm 8:5.

Recent Two Powers in Heaven Article

This article just appeared:

Adiel Schremer, “Midrash, theology, and history: two powers in heaven revisited,” Journal for the Study of Judaism in the Persian, Hellenistic and Roman Period, 39 no 2 (2008): 230-254.

If you are a student or faculty (or have a college or university library card) your library should enable you to get this article in PDF.  Some public libraries also give access to the ATLA Religion database or JSTOR, through which you can get this. I haven’t read it yet, but I will be downloading it soon.

Two Powers in Heaven Blog to Return!

I’m going to revive this blog after Thanksgiving. Its original purpose was to help me write an article on this issue for publication (to force me to do it).  That article will be done by Nov. 18, since that’s the day I leave for the conference at which I have to read the article/paper on it!

Since it’ll be “done” I’m going to re-start this blog and post the paper for discussion. I’ll also be posting other online articles related to the two powers issue for discussion.
