Robbie Graham at Silver Screen Saucers recently posted this informative and interesting piece about one of my favorite UFO/alien-themed movies, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The movie has long been the subject of a great deal of speculation among UFO researchers and enthusiasts. Robbie’s lengthy post takes you through all the ins-and-outs of those speculations.

One Response to “Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters: Official Government Acclimation?”

“Close Encounters” is a favorite of mine as well. It’s probably the first hugely successful sci-fi movie (not merely a cult or drive-in flick) that puts so many UFO themes and story types together in one vehicle with great effects. Can’t believe it was made for only $20 million. I especially love the imaginative communication techniques using musical/mathematical tones. And was the Devil Tower an alien Mt. Sinai? Another tool to be used in laying groundwork for a future deception/normalizing expectations related to aliens/abductions/a New Age?

Interesting pre-production title: “Kingdom Come” And the “mother ship” model is now in the Smithsonian.

Seems like that after “Close Encounters,” interest in alien abduction stories and the number of them exploded.

Abduction-related (and it actually exists): I just came across a reference to “alien abduction insurance.” A company in Florida actually offers and says it has sold it to over 20,000 people. AND says they have actually paid out on two claims(?!!!). The Heaven’s Gate UFO cult had purchased such insurance but their insurance company cancelled it after its members were “raptured” up to the mothership following Comet Hale-Bopp. Who knew?
